From a rubber estate to an orchard, this traditional Perak Malay house is gracefully surrounded by durian trees scattered around 5 acres of land. It offers a stream of crystal-clear water trailing through the orchard and a small coop for livestock.
This property is owned by an enthusiastic architect and conservation advocate, Azim A. Aziz, which is his labour of love for his family's treasured house. The hundred-year-old house of Rumah Kuning was left derelict after the passing on of his grandfather in 1992 before a road widening project in 2001 prompted him to safeguard the house for future generations. Later, Azim began restoring and upgrading the house and surrounding orchard area, naming it in honour of his beloved grandfather, Zakariah Bin Malim Sulaiman, while Bagas means house in the Mandailing Language, as a homage to his ancestor lineage.
