Many of us were born and grew up around Inle Lake, amongst its diverse communities, unique traditions and rare natural environment. To us, heritage means looking after what our ancestors gave us, sharing it with others and passing it on to future generations in a better condition.

You are welcome to immerse yourselves in Inle’s beauty with our boutique accommodation in stilt houses located in the heart of the lake community. Each room is built to the highest environmental standards from teaks, recycled hardwood and bamboo. They are designed to serve as both a personal retreat and a link to our stunning surroundings. Our rooms are furnished with traditional Shan paper and woven fabrics and are surrounded by our fresh vegetable gardens.

OUR HISTORY
Welcome to Inle Heritage – a wealth of services, opportunities and innovations that make our region thrive. We are a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to working with the region’s diverse ethnic communities and a unique environment to protect and nourish our heritage.

The ecological importance of Inle Lake and its watershed, as well as the impressive innovations of its inhabitants, won it the status of UNESCO ‘Man and the Biosphere’ Reserve in 2015. Our ethos is to work in harmony with this treasured environment, growing its potential without damaging our resources. Through socially responsible business models, education and conservation, we aim to create a support system that is economically as well as ecologically sustainable so that Inle continues to be a rare and wonderful place to visit, work and live.

At our site in Innpawkhon village, you can learn about our projects, play with the Burmese cats that we have reintroduced to the country, learn to cook Inthar-style, buy original and local crafts, or just relax with food and drinks on our shady verandas. The Inthar Heritage House is built from reclaimed wood and is used to exhibit the contemporary work of the region. Our restaurant offers the best locally sourced food and expertly trained local chefs, facilitating those in the region to conserve and benefit from the traditions closest to them. We offer visitors insight into our pioneering initiatives, such as wastewater treatment and sustainable fishing, and an opportunity to play an important part in the vibrant cultures that exist here.

All of our profits go to fund social projects that can’t use a revenue model, so when you visit Inle Heritage, you are not only experiencing the world that is so precious to us; you are making it possible. We know that sustainability is not just about ecology but the economy, too, so one of our aims is to facilitate local education and employment. At our vocational training centre, we sponsor about 40 young students every year, giving them the skills they need to continue to build sustainable tourism in the Inle Region. Come and join us.
