Wallwood Garden is a 19th-century Scottish-style, stately home built over a hundred years ago by a Scottish Major General, hailing from the village Blair Athol in Scotland. Wallwood was later sold to a British couple after the First World War, who ran it as a boarding house for many years. It was purchased by Liptons before the Second World War and the house has remained in the hands of tea companies. The Mansion has retained its old world charm with its 10 spacious rooms, stately porch, the wooden flooring, fire place and common room, the entire set up is vintage.
The property is only two hours from Coimbatore and has its own prize winning garden of the Nilgiris. It is located just two minutes away from Sim’s Park, one of India’s most verdant Botanical Gardens, laid out in 1874 with over 1200 species of plants and many old rare trees like the Rudraksh, Paperwood, Elephant Leg, Strawberry Plant, etc.
Have tea in the gardens, or sneak into the atrium and restaurant which serves homely food. Relax and take a walk in the large pomological garden. One of only three experimental fruit gardens of the State Agricultural Department, you’ll see research being done on fruits of all kinds here, ranging from pomegranate and apples to plums and apricots.
