About Chughureti

During the late Middle Ages, Chugureti and Kukia villages emerged on the left bank of Mtkvari, later incorporated into Tbilisi in 1824. Chugureti initially housed serfs, peasants, and craftsmen, featuring pottery factories and scattered one-story houses. Its urban development took off in the 1840s-50s, spurred by bridge construction linking the city's banks. By the late 19th century, lavish two- and three-story buildings characterized Chugureti. The parks now situated at 9 March and Deda Ena were once islands in the Mtkvari, with one branch dried up in the 1930s to make way for a road. Chugureti, a bustling business district, is flanked by railways, streets, and the Mtkvari River, encompassing various neighbourhoods like Okros Ubani, Plekhanov, and Vorontsov. Despite its less frequent usage, Chugureti remains an active and prominent area in Tbilisi.
